You Are What You Play

Say....What?

Ok, there have been articles done on solo RPs, and improv RPs. The one on solo RPs was good. So was the other.  But my question to everyone is this: do you really need to pull off a solo RP just to get inside your character's head and learn more about him/her/it?

My answer to this is 'No,' and it will always remain to be so. I play many different characters -elves, vampyres, bounty hunters, warlocks, 'immortals', etc...- and I have never found much use for looking around in the confines of my mind for an idea to pull off a solo RP to figure out more of who my characters are.

The reason for my abstinence of soloing? It is because of one reason, and one reason only. And that reason? Well, it is quite simple, and you'll probably kick yourselves (Ed. Note: Nah... how about I just give myself a stern talking to?)  when you realise how very simple it is.  I refrain from soloing to better understand my characters. When I RP, I BECOME the character that I am RPing.

Yes, I know that the idea of a mun 'becoming' the C that he/she plays may sound quite ridiculous, and might possibly border on the line of stupid and psychotic.  But, believe me when I say this: when you 'become' the character, it will make your RPing all the more fun.

Now, when I say that I 'become' the character that I am playing, I don't mean that, if, for example, I'm play my vampyre, I go around biting people on the neck, trying to drink there blood. What I mean about 'becoming' the character is that you try and reason things out as if YOU were the character. But remember, you've got a set of limits and rules to follow. You are limited to what the surroundings of the RP area consists of. You can't  bring in things that you have around you. The things that you use MUST be  consistent with the environment that surrounds your character - you.

Remember, you are what you play.
