Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
IMC User's Manual | Public Vs. Private Rooms
The difference between "public" and "private" chatrooms.
IMC has two types of chatrooms: public and private. Public rooms are openly advertised on the site and are available to everyone. Private rooms are created by individual users and can only be accessed by users who know the private room name.
If people want to found a new room, they need to create it as a private room first, advertise for it, and insure that it enjoys enough popularity over time to be worthy of being made public. (Click here for more information on making your own room.)
You can also create invite-only private rooms, one to a user, where you can allow in onlu the people you wish -- for instance, if you wanted to have a room staff conference.
